Kindergarten

CSB Kindergarten refers to children between the ages  3-6 years .We deliver our Curriculum through play, with a wide range of activities which are both instructive and fun, because we know that young children learn best when they are happy and confident. We nurture creative development, a sense of self- confidence, independence, perseverance and a love of learning.

We promote the idea that each child develops at his/her own pace, therefore our activities are planned around the children's interests and needs. During the year we will be covering areas such as:

PERSONAL AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

It is considered to be an essential area of learning for all children, as children leaving us feeling confident, motivated, secure and aware of others are more likely to succeed not only in formal learning but in life. The aspects of learning in this area are:

  • dispositions and attitudes

  • self-confidence and self-esteem

  • forming relationships

  • behavior and self-control

  • self-care

Many of these can be promoted through the routine of the setting, like putting out and tidying away resources and materials, working alongside adults, storybooks, displays with their work and different table top activities.

COMMUNICATION LANGUAGE AND LITERACY

We promote communication, language and literacy skills by providing the opportunity, encouragement and support for the children to become confident in a number of key skills such as:

-speaking and listening

Language for communication looks at helping children to use language as a way of socializing, expressing their needs and interests, explain .describe, ask simple questions etc (use language for different purposes). It also includes encouraging children to sustain attentive listening, and to respond with questions and comments, as well as acquiring new vocabulary by hearing new words in certain meaningful activities.

-reading is an aspect of learning' that concentrates on motivating children to read rather than an ability simply to decode. We follow the Oxford reading scheme, and the children exercise their reading skills one to one with the teacher on a weekly basis.

-writing looks particularly at children's desire to communicate at first using marks but eventually more recognizable letters. Children are given opportunities to attempt writing for different purposes, such as making shopping lists, writing cooking recipes, making cards, etc.

MATHEMATICAL   DEVELOPMENT

 We promote the development and understanding of mathematical skills by providing the opportunity for the children's experiences of mathematics to be enjoyable and meaningful and for the children's confidence to be fostered at all times. Children will be covering all mathematical areas of learning, through practical and meaningful activities, areas, such as;

  • numbers as labels and for counting

  • patterns

  • calculating

  • shape, space and measures

  • problem solving

Children's interest for numbers is aroused by interaction with their environment and with other people. The first aspect looks at helping children recognize the importance of numbers in their everyday lives, both as labels (e.g. house numbers), but also for counting, as children are introduced to different counting skills through hands-on activities.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD

In this area of learning, children develop the crucial knowledge, skills and understanding that help them to make sense of the world. This forms the foundation for later work in science, design and technology, history and geography.

A particular attention is given to activities based on first-hand experiences that encourage exploration, observation, problem solving, prediction, decision making and discussion, as well as to adult support in helping children organize tasks, criteria and information and in keeping record of the information they have gathered.

CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT

We nurture creative development through areas of learning such as art, music, dance, imaginative play and design, that stimulate their curiosity. Children are encouraged to respond, explore, express and communicate their ideas and use their imagination through a wide range of activities provided by our school, such as:

  • Drawing and painting using a variety of techniques, materials and textures.

  • Modeling play-dough, plasticine and clay.

  • Build different models using a variety of construction materials.

  • Use music in different ways (singing, dancing, sound making).

  • Using role and imaginative play.

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

Our school provides activities that involve the use of a wide range of tools, equipment and materials in order for each child to develop his/her physical skills, co-ordination, dexterity and competence as well as fine and gross motor skills. Other physical activities such as running, jumping, tiptoeing, etc. are designed to develop muscular control and strength, as well as body and spatial awareness. Children participate in such activities during PE with the teacher, as well as on a daily basis during outdoor play time. We also initiate our students in early computer skills by using educational games appropriate to their age groups.

EXTRA CURRICULA ACTIVITIES

Our school also provides Arabic and Turkish lessons. We offer music lessons with an experienced music teacher. Also, the children can join our dance club (modern dance and ballet) In addition to the daily class programme we provide the opportunity for children to explore and make sense of the world around them through first-hand experiences during field-trips to museums, farms, puppet theatres, special play grounds etc.
